DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A EASY SCULPTIE APP...

Postby Ghosthunter » Sun Oct 04, 2009 12:42 pm

.
Does anyone know of or recommends a really easy out world sculptie map creative application to use for the creation of sculpties?

I have Adobe Photoshop 7.0, the GNU licensed Blender, and a few others, but all require a bit of time I have found to master...

The in world Sculptie tools that can be purchased in SL or Xstreet, or even more difficult to master, with all the steps to go through in order to create a map.

Any help would be appreciated... Thank you...

Sculpties are something I would learn to learn, so if you figure them out, please teach me. I was very impressed by two classes I attended on Sculpt Studio, available on XStreet for L$4999 (or about $20).

ROKURO(lathe) (or Rokuro Pro) and TOKOROTEN(extruder) leave me completely confused, but here is a tutorial, and I have not tried Sculpty Paint but have heard good things about it.

For ease and simplicity one cant go past the free 'Sculptypaint'. There are some tutorials on this but one needs to search around on the web for them. This program was made especially for SL and the transfer of the finished sculpt textures nto SL is easy. Best to try it seeing its free - just google Sculptypaint!

I have not heard of Wings 3D before now, but it is listed on the Second Life Wiki Page as being a Free 3D Modeling Software package that works with SL, and there are numerous tutorials that are specific to making sculpties.

Please come back and tell us what you think when you try it.

Hello dj,

Yesterday, I downloaded the manual, and both versions of the software, to check out, one a beta version.

The software works great on my XP Pro OS, and the manual is informative, have not checked out the beta as of yet.

But, I believe it would take a bit of playing around with the application to really get a hold of its functionality, means getting ones hands dirty for a time in order to create great sculpties.

Brings one back to the just trying one program after the other to find a comfort zone to stick with in making sculpties.

The Sculpty Paint, Victoria recommended looks very promising for one to create simple sculpties to complicated right off the install.

However, you must upgrade to Java 1.6 and delete all earlier installments upon your machine before it will work.

As for the Sculpt Studio, it is a bit over a small budget if one wanted to spend the green backs to obtain. I have a friend who is currently using the program, or shall I say is still learning it, seems there are many steps to create a sculptie.

I downloaded Rokuro lathe, if you ever used a real machine lathe in real life, catching onto this applications shouldn't take to much time, but the strengths I see in this one is the creation of Columns for builds.

As for the Pro, I would not prob ... go that far... As for Tokoroten, I would have to agree with Professor Viper, appears to be just what he said.

I've been using Sculpt Studio for a couple of months now, and really like it. The program interface is entirely in-world, except for retrieving the final .tga texture file and .obj file from their website. The company offers twice-weekly tutorials with a live teacher that are always well attended.

In addition to .tga and .obj files, it also produces .txt files that can be edited with a text editor or processed through higher-powered software such as Excel, VB, C++, etc. The learning curve is steep, but it's a hacker's delight -- speaking as one who has edited .tga files with a binary editor. :ugeek:

That being said, it's probably not the easiest program to learn quickly, so if that's your primary consideration, you'd probably be better off with something else.

Or vases or anything else with radial symmetry, but that is only a very small subset of the things I want to create.

Hi everyone, Here's a free web-app that anyone can use without downloading any software:

http://www.nandnerd.info/

Click the upper-left image on the page, and another page opens with four different apps for creating:

--Sculpties with rotational symmetry, where the shape-defining centers of rotation are equally spaced along the Z axis (Revolve)
--Sculpties with a more complex kind of rotational symmetry, where you can specify where the shape-defining centers of rotation fall along the Z axis (Z,R Revolve)
    --"Extruded" sculpties (Constant Cross-Section)
    --Cylinders with rounded edges
Now, let me admit that I haven't done extremely complex sculpties, and that most of mine have rotational symmetry. So this free "cloud app" may be too simplistic for advanced projects. But I was able to use it immediately as a beginner (even at the office  )! (I used it to create the unusual 360-degree round staircase that people see in my "Low-Prim Building" class.)

The most confusing thing about Nand Nerd's tools is that the fields for defining the shape's cross-section (running from the top of the page down) actually create the final sculptie shape from its bottom up. So when I created the shape for a "Tiffany Lamp," the radius of the lamp's BASE was defined by the first numeric field on the tool's page... and point at the TOP of the lamp's shade was defined by the last numeric field on the page. But once you understand that, the tools are a lot easier to use!

And when the displayed shape outline looks good to you, just click the Generate Texture button at the bottom of the page and save the tex file directly to your disk.

And be sure to check out the other pages on Nand Nerd's site. Great stuff there! (I GOTTA play with his powerful-looking particle generator sometime!)

Yes I know of an easy sculptie maker. This program is made to be used by children ages 5 to 8 or so. So the learning curve should be ok. I think Ive even heard of a place in SL that has lots of the Plopp sculpties in use.
But to use this you simply draw a picture with the crayons provided and touch the icon to blow it up. You wont get a lot of detail in the mapping and will get distortion when its uploaded to SL. But its as easy as they come. Heres a link to the website for a closer look at it, I hope this helps. Oh ya its a Free program,
